2014 Fall Art Walk - The Write Up

Friday, November 7, 2014, was this year's Fall Art Walk in Helena, Montana. The Fall Art Walk is one of the biggest events of the year, here in the Capital City. The event sees thousands of people descend on downtown for a night of food, drinks, music & art.

I've done events before, but nothing quite like the Art Walk. So, six months ago, securing the spot at fourOsix (which, in addition to being the coolest store around - as you've heard me say, is also the prime spot for the Art Walk) meant a whole lot of preparation, excitement, and a whole lot of anxiety. There was a whole lot of what if my stuff's not good enough/what if nobody buys anything/what if nobody shows up/what if, what if, what if running thru my brain.

Well, now that it's over and a week's gone by and I'm wrapping up my post-art walk-mental vacation, I'm ready to tell you how it went.

In a word, AWESOME!

I'm pretty sure that's a few tons worth of people.

That's me, behind the column, with the goofy smile because there are a bajillion people in the place!

So, as the photos attest, people showed up. They showed up, they had fun, they enjoyed the night, they liked the art, they bought the art. So, like I said, AWESOME.

The art was printed, large scale, on sheets of aluminum, a process I've never used before, and it looked great. The space for art at fourOsix is a bit higher than your average art gallery, but the big metal pieces looked phenomenal up there.

Most of the pieces were new, never before used in a show, some were brand new, never seen before at all - not even by the internet! Here the whole collection:

So there you have it. The Art Walk was a smashing success! Big thanks to Alex 'Papu' Rincon, owner of fourOsix and all around awesome guy, for giving me this opportunity. Big thanks to my Dad, who came down from Bozeman the night before to help me set up and for his manning of the "Merch Table" all night. And, of course, an enormous thank you to Annie, for helping me out with everything, for living thru all the stress and craziness of the past few months and for diving in and being an equal partner with me on all this insanity.

A few weeks ago I found out that a good friend of Papu's, local artist Larry Kucsulain was diagnosed with brain cancer. During the Art Walk I did a book signing (Of my books Silvertip & Epsilon) from which all of the proceeds went to Larry and his family. A huge thanks to everyone who got books on Friday. Every little bit helps and it means a lot to me to be able to contribute, even a little bit. Also a big thanks goes to Riverbend Publishing for donating a case of books for the event.

If you didn't get a book on Friday, signed books will be on sale at fourOsix for the rest of the month. I'll also be in the store on Black Friday and Small Business Saturday to sign books too, with all the proceeds of those sales going to Larry. So come on down, get some cool books about bears and wolves for you or your kids, and support a good cause!

Thanks to everyone who came down and made the 2014 Fall Art Walk a really special night!
